How friendly is your friendly neighbourhood bank? Does it treat you royally or does it give you a royal ignore?

You would get a fair idea when you approach it for availing a product or service, but a bigger yardstick for judging the value the bank attaches to you as a customer would be when you confront it with your grievances.

These aspects of customer friendliness, however, are just a tip of the iceberg.'

The Outlook Money-TNS Study of India's Most Customer Friendly Banks takes a look at the perception of 3,430 customers across 17 parameters in six major cities.

TNS, Outlook Money's knowledge partner in the survey, is a reputed international market research firm.

Participating banks. Of the plethora of banks in the country, 15 were found to be eligible for the study.

The first stage of filtering was based on the parameters finalised by the Outlook Money Awards jury for the Best Bank category.

Once this list was arrived at, banks were sorted on the basis of deposits. From this, the top 15 banks were chosen to be covered in study.

BANGALORE: India launched a rocket carrying three satellites into orbit on Wednesday in its latest effort to gain a share of the global commercial space market.

The main satellite in the launch from the Sriharikota space centre in Andhra Pradesh was the remote-sensing Resourcesat-2, which will study the effect of human life on the Earth's natural resources.

The rocket also carried an Indo-Russian satellite for stellar and atmospheric studies and an imaging orbiter built by the Singapore-based Nanyang Technological University.

"The Resourcesat-2 mission is successful," Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K. Radhakrishnan announced after all three satellites were released by the rocket 822 kilometres (510 miles) above Earth.

The successful mission was a relief for India's space project, which suffered a major setback in December when a satellite launch vehicle blew up and fell into the Bay of Bengal live on television after it veered from its intended flight path.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that Wednesday's launch, which was greeted with cheers from scientists, "demonstrated yet again the advanced capabilities" of the nation's space programme.

India, which aims to send its first manned flight into space in 2016, first staked a claim for a share of the lucrative commercial satellite-launch market by sending up an Italian orbiter in 2007.

The country sees its space exploration programme as an achievement that underlines its emergence as a major world economy, and many Indians take patriotic pride in its development.

A lot of people are curious as to why we want to give away the music free. Firstly, this greatly reduces the distance between the band and its listeners. A lot of people (specially younger people!) do not buy music any more but rip or download from the web, so we want to make their lives a little guilt-free!

In addition, this means no more negotiating contracts with record companies and fighting over copyright issues, no worries about bad distribution, albums not being available at different places and so on. Also, very frankly, no Indian artist survives on royalty. We make almost all our income playing live shows and composing music for films etc., so it is no great hardship for us to give up this amount. We also hope that this becomes a means for other artists in India to reach out to their listening public

Even in Bollywood, F.A.L.T.U movie’s music offered digital-only purchase of music.  And now, a Tamil/Telegu movie 180 has come up with an interesting model – pay what you want.
You can buy individual track for any money (as less as a 1 INR)!

For the first time in India, we are offering you the chance to pay what you want for songs from the album. Check out sample clips on this page, and if you like a song, simply type in the amount you want to pay for it at the time of checkout.

What’s your take? Does this model pushes the envelope when it comes to product quality (forces others to rethink on pricing)?

If you go to a restaurant which offers good food and asks you to put up a price, do you think you will end up paying more?

What’s your opinion?

Researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology are developing a camera based on the science similar to the type used in airport body scanners to detect everything from defects in aerospace vehicles or concrete bridges to skin cancer.

The research team, led by Reza Zoughi, of the Missouri S and T, has developed a patented handheld camera that uses millimeter and microwave signals to non-intrusively peek inside materials and structures in real time.

"In the not-so-distant future, the technology may be customized to address many critical inspection needs, including detecting defects in thermal insulating materials that are found in spacecraft heat insulating foam and tiles, space habitat structures, aircraft radomes and composite-strengthened concrete bridge members," said Zoughi.

The technology could help medical professionals detect and monitor a variety of skin conditions in humans, including cancer and burns. It also has the potential to help Homeland Security personnel detect concealed contraband (such as weapons) or reduce the number of passenger pat downs at airports.

The compact system can produce synthetically focused images of objects - at different planes in front of the camera - at speeds of up to 30 images per second.

A laptop computer then collects the signal and displays the image in real-time for review. The entire system, powered by a battery similar to the size used in laptops, can run for several hours.

"Unlike X-rays, microwaves are non-ionizing and may only cause some heating effect. However, the high sensitivity and other characteristics of this camera enables it to operate at a low-power level," said Zoughi.

Currently the camera operates in the transmission mode, meaning objects must pass between a transmitting source and its collector to be reviewed. The team is working on designing and developing a one-sided version of it, which will make it operate in a similar fashion to a video camera.
